a battle of wits

at start, i dun even know the existence of this new chinese flick.. until few hrs ago, my chum asked me to keep him company.. then, i got mixed up with another chinese flick starrin gong li n jay chou.. alamak!! this shows that i never pay much attention to the chinese showbiz..

upon finding out that the whole movie is in mandarin , i seriously thought a battle of wits would be another boring show.. like crouching tiger, hidden dragon or house of flying daggers ( which i think is bored to the max ).. i reckoned i'll soon doze off the early 30 mins of the show..

actually, the movie's far from it, so far that it's in fact, dead serious.. n the movie is unexpectedly good ( 10 times better than wat i expected earlier ).. better than a lot of hollywood war flicks like alexander n king arthur..

a movie on art of war, military tactics, betrayal, tragic death n so on.. the movie managed to cheat some tears from me *sob sob*

synopsis : the movie is based on a popular manga series from japan titled bokko.. back in the warring states in 243 B.C., china was torn among seven states, each with their own individual ruler.. smaller and weaker states often fell prey to larger and stronger ones as their ambitious rulers strived endlessly for expansion through invasion.. state yan was one of those unfortunate victims, with state zhao eyeing them to feast on.. the troops from state zhao, led by daring commander xiang yanzhong, were determined to take over state yan.. they knew they had to control the city liang 1st, on the outskirts of state yan, in order to win the battle..

running time : 2 hours & 15 minutes

my 2 cents : even though i'm not a fan of andy lau, i really think this movie doesn't bored me ( mayb bcoz i'm quite fond of war epic ).. i find the movie is worthier than casino royale, which i seen last saturday..
